By incorporating blogs and wikis into our teaching we are helping to provide our students with an up to date education. As educators and coaches we must adapt with the times and find the best ways for our students to not only learn the material but know it on a level to help their future. By using blogs you can keep students up to date on what material will be covered in class that day, when homework is due, what to expect for the day, and different links to related material. Those are just a few reasons why a blog would be beneficial to students. As a coach a blog on what to expect to work on at practice that day as well as a way to commend athletes on good performances.
Social bookmarking has an upside and downside in education. Upsides include being able to classify information into specific areas making it more easy for people working with the same material to access information. By using social bookmarking you may be able to look at what others are looking at and use the information that others are using to help you on your way with a project or paper. While it seems as tho this is a great search tool it is here that social blogging rears its ugly head. There are no set search words or keywords when searching for material thus making it very difficult unless you know specifically know where to look. Overall after reviewing social bookmarking if used correctly with knowledge of the subject and way to operate the system it can be a very good tool used in the class room
Overall this week it was shocking to me to see how easy it was to create a blog. I have spent many hours reading sports related blogs and thought that it was a great way to share you thoughts and opions with subject matters. It was also very interesting to me to be able to be exposed to new technologies being made available to the classroom. I am very much looking forward to this class and expanding my abilities to incorporate technology into the classroom!
Daniel,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you think technology can help you work with your students. I love technology. :)
Have you checked out VoiceThread? It is cool too! :)
Thanks,
